But the app is currently facing criticism from users globally for a number of geographical errors, missing information and given it lacks features that made Search engines Maps so popular, including open transit directions, comprehensive traffic facts or street view pictures. Apple company company Maps has replaced Google Maps, which is no longer on iOS 6. Many users that downloaded Apple's iOS 6 software, released on Wednesday, took to Twitter and online forums to mention their frustration at the mistakes. "The people who thought the earth was flat were more accurate cartographers than Apple Maps, " @RayneBradley said on Twitter. "Apple Maps likewise have errors in business listings. I attended call a local taxi driver plus it was a taxidermist (seriously), " said @TomDavenport on Twitter. Apple wouldn't return messages seeking comment. The criticism comes on the eve of the kick off of Apple's iPhone 5, which hits stores world wide on Friday. The iPhone 5 comes pre-loaded while using the new iOS 6 software and also Maps. Users have created a Tumblr blog site sarcastically dubbed "The Amazing iOS 6 Maps" in which many have posted screen shots from the errors (ht tp: //theamazingios6maps. tumblr. com/). Pictures showed the Norwegian town of Leknes in the Norwegian sea, the entire city center of Stratford-upon-Avon is defined as a hospital. Some of your errors have even irked political figures. Irish Minister for Justice Alan Shatter said he was surprised to discover that Airfield -- a 35-acre property with working farm and café inside center of his constituency inside Dundrum, Ireland -- has been labeled while using the image of an aircraft. He said this could be dangerous for pilots and suggested in the statement that Apple use your image of "a cow, some sort of goat, a sheep, a flower" as a substitute, and that an "aircraft is definitely an entirely inappropriate flight of imagination. " Users in Asia were surprised to discover two sets of the questioned territory of Senkaku Islands. Some joked until this was Apple's effort at providing a diplomatic treatment for Japan and China, both which claim the islands. NOT A FAIRLY EASY FIX Closer to home, Ny residents are unhappy that Apple company company maps doesn't offer public transit recommendations, one of the most-used capabilities on Google Maps in locations. "My phone should be competent to tell me which bus and train to take, " said Kennan Ali, some sort of Brooklyn, New York, resident who exclusively uses public transport in the city and has been the iPhone user since 2008. "I am hoping in the next update they will somehow include transit directions. " Apple's map service comes with three-dimensional images of cities called "Flyover" along with real-time traffic updates and furthermore turn-by-turn navigation, the last a feature that Google has in Android devices but had not made available in Apple equipment. Apple licenses mapping data from vehicle satnav systems maker TomTom. TomTom said it stands behind the quality of its maps but didn't create the app. "During the procedure for turning mapping data into the app, every manufacturer does it their particular way, " said TomTom spokesperson Cem Cohen. "We aren't part of that process. Apple uses the exact same maps as our other clients. " Cohen said TomTom hasn't talked to Apple about the issues. While in theory it will be possible for Apple to update Maps that has a software fix, the problems seem "pretty profound and pretty standard, " said Marcus Thielking, co-founder of Skobbler, maker of the popular Gps device 2 app, built using your crowdsourced OpenStreetMap platform. "The question is really how much expertise do they've in-house and what they procured from third parties, " Thielking stated, adding that Apple requires people who have a very specific skill set to correct it. "It's not their primary competence, " he added. Search engines, for its part, did not say whether it could do a Google Maps applications for iOS 6.
