Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone 5 is getting a great deal of flak for being iterative, predictable as well as disappointing to some. Everywhere all of us turn, we keep hearing a similar story: Why doesn’t the iPhone 5 have a bigger screen, a larger electric battery, a higher megapixel camera and also Near Field Communication (NFC)? AllThingsD caught up with Apple’s senior vice leader of worldwide marketing, Phil Schiller, to go to the bottom of the so-called “missing functions. ”
On why the apple iphone 5 doesn’t have NFC, Schiller advised AllThingsD, “It’s not clear that NFC will be the solution to any current problem” and “Passbook does the varieties of things customers need today. ” Schiller has every to call NFC a nascent feature that has yet to have a ubiquitous presence — just inquire Google (GOOG) how its Google Wallet program does. (Hint: Not as well because Google had hoped. )
Concerning why Apple isn’t pursuing wireless charging the way Nokia (NOK) is with their Lumia 820 and 920 cell phones, Schiller said that wireless charging pads still need to be plugged into a wall and offer no real convenience over attaching a regular charging cable.
